Marriage Pillowe - Harmony's dressed

She's dressed! It took quite a while to stitch the dress - all those rows and rows of stem stitch aren't quick to do! - but it looks just lovely. The curves in the design and the different shades of blue give a sense of movement. When I look at clothing, I tend to see the outfit rather than notice how the clothing catches the light, how it hangs and how it moves. Working on this part of the project, I started to think about how clothing catches the light or casts a shadow. When I looked at a blue dress before, I saw an all-over-one-color blue dress in my mind. If this dress had been worked in one color of blue it would have looked flat and one dimensional. Now that I've worked on this, I'm beginning to notice how clothing looks in light and shadow, how the texture of the fabric can change our perception of the color and how the folds in the fabric change the shade of the color. I'm beginning to notice things an artist notices. One of my favorite parts of the skirt is the area just next to the corner of her Bible. Here the stitching curves to suggest the pressure of the corner of the Bible on her skirt.Once the dress itself was done, it was really fun to add all those little accessories; the necklace, the shoes, her collar and cuffs, her Bible. The necklace is done in French knots and the color and cuffs in (you guessed it!) more stem stitch. Here shoes aren't fashionable by today's standards, but they're sturdy and warm and with those dark green buckles, I'm sure they were very stylish. Satin stitch worked in two different directions help the shoes look more realistic. This time I didn't outline or pad the shape of the shoe since they're so small. The buckles are done with four little straight stitches. Here's a peek at the back side of the piece. You can clearly see where Harmony is but you can also see where Issac is still missing. It looks as if he's faded away...or waiting to appear!Tomorrow I'm going to begin working on detached buttonhole, so I'll be leaving this project for a bit. At the end of the week you'll have our first inspirational interview, with Tracy Franklin! And maybe I'll get a bit more done on Trevilian's Cap.
